Minimum tank size for 2 fantail goldfish?

i wanted some goldfish for my 30 gal but their not tropical so i decided to buy a new tank. the maximum i can get is 45 gallons, but after that i wont be able to get anymore tanks :(. is it big enough or even worth it? i really like fantails and would like a couple....
