What computer should I get (for college and electronic music)?

My dad offered to buy me a laptop for my birthday, and I would definitely like to take him up on that offer. I am starting my senior year of high school, and would like to be able to use this laptop throughout college as well. I would also be using this for producing electronic music, but not using it for games (I want to be as least distracted as possible). I want a laptop with above average processing power, lots of storage (I'll be storing papers and a LOT of music on this thing), and relatively good memory, 2 GB is minimum, 4GB is preferred. If the graphics look amazing, that's a plus. I am proficient in PCs as well as Macs. Also, try to keep it under $3,000.
