Can marijuana affect myofascial pain?

I was recently told that pain in my legs (can be very severe at times) might by caused by a case similar to fibromyalgia or some other myofascial pain syndrome. I know a common theory regarding fibromyalgia is that is has something to do with dopamine, serotonin, or other endorphins in the brain. I also know that marijuana is known to effect many of the endorphins in the brain, so i ask this question; is it possible marijuana could be having an affect on myofascial pain? The pain did start occuring roughly around the time i began smoking marijuana and has continued sense. The amount i smoke varies, averaging around once every 1.5-2 weeks. I know asking for medical advice, is looked down upon, but i do not feel comfortable speaking with my regular doctor about such things. Any advice is appreciated, i promise i won't sue ;)

Why is there no endorphin pills?

When we take our horses camping we tie on a tie line using tree saver straps with rings and a non stretching line. We tie each horse far enough apart so they can't touch each other. Then tie them so they can just barely reach the ground. Their noses don't need to be on the ground. Make sure their is no slack in the tie line. Try this during the day so you can watch them and sometimes they will take naps after a long trail ride during the day. If your horse paws you can use hobbles, practice at home with hobbles. Our horses lie down all the time when they are camping.

17 years old, and serotonin deficient... Help/Advice please?

I talked to my science teacher the other day about how I am always craving foods like dark chocolate and coffee. I feel like all the time there is this little voice in my head telling me how worthless I am, and I can go through days/weeks of feeling depressed. I'm only 17 years old - by a couple of months, and my teacher told me I am serotonin deficient. What does this mean, and are there any ways I can help this without prescription drugs? I have found that whenever I feel depressed music always helps me - to a certain extent, and I sometimes just have to go lay outside under the sun, or just feel the wind. I know that sunlight can help, but I don't understand how craving dark chocolate and caffeine can be factors in determining that I'm serotonin deficient. I am constantly tired, no matter how much sleep I get. I feel like my head and neck are in constant pain - but I don't know if this is because of how I sleep or what. I think there are different subsets of what is called "depression". Some are caused by a person's subconscious or even conscious; some forms are due to diseases; and some forms are due to a combination of the two and genetics and a problem with the rewards, pleasure pathway in the brain. It's my belief that all currently FDA approved medications act only as placebos, accept maybe for a select few individuals that may have experienced a traumatic episode in their lives. I believe, for people that have been suffering from symptoms of depression, and chronic fatigue, and felt "off" all their life their is a genetic problem. Also, the drugs available to treat such "biological" depression (though I don't think it can be considered depression if it is biological or medical) is woefully impotent. We have the FDA not approving any drugs that actually are shown to relieve "depression"- especially in the 40-50% of of depressive patients that get no relief from the current "placebo" antidepressants-because they act to quickly and thus are deemed "addicting". The only thing the FDA will improve, and the pharmaceutical companies will pursue, are long acting drugs, that really have no effect except for the placebo effect. As someone that fits somewhere in these categories, I can attest I have never felt any benefit from every category of antidepressant when on it for weeks! Nothing. I can not believe that these drugs are even approved. The pharmaceutical companies, research bio-psychiatrists and all scientists involved in mental health have no concrete clue as to how the current so called antidepressants work (which I believe they don't), because they have not been able to measure quantified regions of the brain consistent with depression and subsequent improvement as related to these medications. Psychiatrists are a joke for people with a biological problem causing the depression or total body and brain loss of certain characteristics. The current research on antidepressants, is all by accident, coincidental. A certain drug designed for something else, happens to cause a lift in mood for a small subset of patients. Therefore it must be an antidepressant!....The serotonin theory pushed by some, has no basis at all, with regard to antidepressants. To prove this, they are several drugs approved to treat depression that actually reduce serotonin! Personally, I'd rather take the chances of living as a so called addicted person, with feelings, emotions, and contribution to society than suffer decades due to our government rulings and propaganda by psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies.

What to do about my boss/roommate yelling at her kids all day everyday?

I work as a nanny to 3 kids, and one is very difficult with huge emotional and behavioral issues. I have received numerous compliments from friends and there family on the positive changes that have came about since i have been there nanny. I "hide" in my room constantly when the mother is here, part to give them there space, and privacy, and part because i do not enjoy interaction with the mother, because she always asks me to work overtime without pay, and she is always in a bad mood. the yelling is so distracting, and starts as soon as the kids get home from school, or when the whole family gets home from going somewhere. I can barely get anything done, from work, paying bills, all the work people have to keep up on, (looking for a new job), my entire to do list. The family is on vacation this week and i have been so productive with getting stuff done, that i have realized just how bad her yelling is effecting my emotional well being, and productivity. Effexor + St. John's Wort = Serotonin Syndrome?

I know they say that you are not supposed to take St. John's Wort if you are taking an antidepressant, because it can increase the risk of Serotonin Syndrome. But here's the thing. I only take 75mg of Effexor a day. At different points I have been prescribed twice my current dose of Effexor, Paxil along with the Effexor, and Prozac along with the Effexor. The increased dose and the SSRIs all caused unacceptable side effects, but not Serotonin Syndrome. So, I'm thinking....since I take a pretty small dose of Effexor, and since my Dr. saw no problem with prescribing more antidepressants, adding St. John's Wort should be safe, at least WRT Serotonin Syndrome. My doc is pro-prescription-drugs and therefore won't give me an opinion.

So I've been taking venlafaxine a day for over 3 years now. Venlafaxine is the only prescription I currently have. I started at 75mg and moved up to 150mg a day for a couple of years. ive been taking just prozac for almost 3 weeks. for 2 weeks i was talking 10mg and i was bumped up to 20mg. ive been on 20mg for since thursday morning. and friday night i got a head ache. i went to bed early got alot of sleep. wokeup still got a head ache. had it about 98% of the time threwout the day. around 10 pm. i started getting what seemed like muscle twiching. i keep still blinking my eyes more then normal. so this gave me anxiety. and i have some symtoms of serotonin syndrom. what do you think?

But as for causing complications, I'm no expert in clinical medicine but since NE and 5-HT aren't a direct constituent of the brain reward circuitry I doubt you can get addicted to them in the same way that people get addicted to psychostimulants. Other changes to NE and 5-HT synapses I'm guessing are likely to be short term and will reverse when you come off of the drugs.

Just recently, I have gotten the letter from my school about my scholarship pertaining to this year's academic performance. I go to a public school in the state of MD. ive been taking prozac for almost 3 weeks. i was put on this for anxiety. i got started off with 10mg for 2 weeks i noticed a small improvement with anxiety. got some tension head aches because i also stop taking lorazepam. i was only taking .5mg and not often tho. it kinda makes me dizzy like a slight drunk feeling. then he had me take the whole pill 20mg 4 days ago. it didnt do anything but on friday i felt slighty dizzy kinda more then before. and last night i got a head ache at the top of my head at the back it goes to the front. its somewhat similiar to a tension head ache but hurts a lil more.i mostly feel it in the back of my head and my nose for some reason. besides a lil diahhrea, like barely. ive been feeling dizzy and kind of getting the aora like sometimes when i close my eyes i see stuff. but i had that before with the anxiety. and i noticed my reflects are more responsive. no fever. a lil flem in my bronchiolar tube nothing bad. wondering what would cause you to have this and a head ache for almost 24 hours. sometimes i wont notice my head ache for 5 minutes. could this be allergies serotonin symdrom anxiety the prozac or sumthing else. im 19 a heavier kid. help me out

The only illegal aliens we crack down on are those that break patent laws. These enforcement of patent laws are extremely expensive since they have to go to other countries to enforce them. The cost easily pass those of deporting illegal immigrants. So why do we choose to enforce laws that cost us so much more? Rather than enforce those that are actually cheaper.

Do I have Serotonin Syndrome?

It's a little unlikely, but regardless I feel I could use another opinion on the matter. About a year back, I'd heard of 5-HTP and after reading up on it, decided to try it, albeit for the admittedly childish intention of having more vivid dreams. In the end, I found a better use for it; it alleviated my anxiety and made my less than perfect weekdays much sunnier. After I finished the bottle some time later, I felt anxious about the idea of potentially becoming dependant on the little tablets, but was surprised to find that this was not the case, and retained my happy disposition. At any rate, a few weeks back, I felt the dismal presence of self-doubt and gloominess creeping up again on my otherwise optimistic mind-set, and last week opted to try taking 5-HTP again. So i've been taking one 100mg capsule on and off before bed for about a week and a half I'm guessing. Last night, I don't believe I took a capsule before sleeping, but nevertheless awoke feeling feverish. No shaking, (except for yesterday after a cup of tea, but this quickly subsided), no sweating, and I do feel a mild soreness, but this is likely due to my running around lately. I don't take any sort of anti-depressant or MAOI's so far as I know. Once again, my imagination is probably getting the best of me, but if there is even the chance that this could be the case, I will discontinue my use immediately. Oh, and I smoke a little pot here and there, in case that may be a factor. Put my mind at ease, would you?

A lot of people like to blame the parents when that's only a fraction of the issue. I think bad parenting has become more of a lame excuse. A good thing to do would be to make a list of foods you like and eat those more often. That way, when you have to eat, you'll enjoy the calories. If you aren't hungry, but you have to eat, try eating foods that will be good for your body. As long as you know that the foods will benefit your body, not make you fat, you won't mind eating them as much. To gain weight, you could also take up weightlifting. Muscle weighs more than fat, so that will help you gain healthy weight faster. I dont really know of a way to be hungrier, but I suppose you could try making delicious meals that make you want to eat. If you see food that you like, you'll feel hungry, even if in reality you aren't actually that hungry. Basically, you just want the taste. Im glad thay you are recovering from it. I can imagine how hard it must be and I desperately want you to succeed. It is great to know that there are people out there with the willpower to overcome anorexia. If one of the main reasons you dont want to eat is a fear of becoming fat, keep in mind that you burn calories just being awake. You even burn them sleeping. You can definitely gain healthy weight by weightlifting and keep off the unhealthy fat by eating nutritious foods that will help your bones and muscles. Good luck and I hope this helped!
